John Gilligan rejects Rangers 'lacking leadership' claims as he gives CEO search update and confirms another UEFA fine

Interim Rangers chairman John Gilligan has hit out at claims the club is lacking leadership.

Director of football operations Creag Robertson is set to become the latest of the Ibrox hierarchy to quit the club. His departure comes after former CEO James Bisgrove - who is yet to be replaced - ducked out to make the move to Saudi Arabia, and chairman John Bennett, who stepped down this season due to health reasons.

That's lead to questions over the level of direction coming right from the very top with a number of key positions vacant or temporarily filled, with Philippe Clement seeing the number of decision makers higher up the food chain dwindling rapidly as he tries to turn things around on the pitch. But in his latest update, Gilligan has assured fans the club is in good hands under himself and fellow board member George Letham and that the search for a new chief exec is progressing.

"I can confirm Director of Football Operations Creag Robertson will leave in the coming weeks to pursue new opportunities," he said. "We must thank Creag for his contribution in several roles since he joined the club in 2016 and we wish him well in his future endeavours.

"With Creag moving on, I have seen some reports of the club being without leadership. I can assure you that is not the case with George Letham and myself, who have deep knowledge of business and our great club, working tirelessly alongside our executive management team to continue to drive the club forward. Nils Koppen, our Director of Football Recruitment, highlighted in an interview last week that planning for the January transfer window is well underway."
