John Barnes expresses Paul Pogba sympathy about Manchester United spell

Former Liverpool and England midfielder John Barnes believes Paul Pogba will be remembered at Manchester United as an "enigma," suggesting that he has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The French international, who rejoined United back in August 2016, is poised to leave the club when his contract expires next month. He has remained coy on his future throughout the final 12 months of his current deal, but is understood to have never shown any interest in extending his deal at Old Trafford.

Pogba is currently recovering from a calf injury and is not expected to feature in United's final day clash with Crystal Palace on May 22, meaning that he has played his last game for the club. He went off injured in the opening exchanges of last month's 4-0 hammering against Liverpool at Anfield.

Despite failing to live up to expectations since returning to United, Barnes has refused to be too critical of Pogba, admitting that he has found himself back at the club during a period where success has been hard to come by. Nevertheless, the former Liverpool man believes he needs to source a new club that suits him and his style of play.

"Paul Pogba will be remembered at Manchester United as an enigma," Barnes told BonusCodeBets. "He's got great potential and is a fantastic footballer, but it just never worked for him at United.
