Joe Worrall shares throwback image after remarkable ending in Nottingham Forest’s draw with Stoke

Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall was forced to end the game in goal for the Reds as they drew 2-2 with Stoke City at the City Ground yesterday.

It was a hard-fought game between the sides for large parts, and it really burst into life in the final five minutes, with Forest keeper Brice Samba sent off after he inexplicably hit out at Phil Jagielka whilst in possession of the ball.

The stopper was sent off for the offence, with Worrall taking the gloves as Steve Cooper had already made his three subs.

And, taking to Instagram, the centre-back shared an image of him in goal yesterday, along with a picture of when he was a kid in a goalkeeper shirt, with the caption of ‘how it started & how it’s going’.

Unfortunately for Worrall, he could do little to stop Lewis Baker’s emphatic penalty that had given Stoke a late 2-1 lead, but Forest would battle back to claim a point with ten men thanks to a dramatic late equaliser from Ryan Yates.

The verdict

This was certainly a game that Worrall will remember, with Samba’s ridiculous red card giving him the chance to end the game in goal.

There’s no keeper in the world that would’ve got close to Baker’s penalty, and whilst Worrall wasn’t called into much action after that, he will have been delighted with how the team responded to get a valuable point.

Now, the focus will be on the next game against Bournemouth, where Worrall will hope he can play the full game in his preferred position!
