Joe Hart absolved of fiery Celtic criticism as riot act punter reminded of 'messy' situation that ended in disaster

He could have performed better in recent matches - but one pundit is in no doubt that Joe Hart is worthy of being Celtic's number one.

The shotstopper arrived from Tottenham in 2021 and has been a mainstay between the sticks for Ange Postecoglou, winning four trophies so far and he could make it a fifth in the Scottish Cup final if he and his teammates manage to overcome Inverness. Hart has had criticism in recent weeks for the goals conceded in a 3-0 defeat to Rangers and a 2-2 draw with St Mirren on Saturday.

One Hoops fan called into Clyde Superscoreboard and fumed over the former England international, saying they wouldn't have him in between the Hampden sticks as Celtic would have 'no chance' if it went to penalties and they would fancy it going that far with the 36-year-old involved. It was then claimed 'he was only looking good because our defence was good' and Mark Wilson wasn't having it, as the former Parkhead defender sent a reminder of what the goalkeeping department was like before his arrival.

He explained: "On Saturday, he could have done better for the goals. I believe he could have done better for a couple of the Rangers goals as well but I think he has been a good signing for Celtic.

"I think he has played his part and is well capable of being number one, no doubt about it. With the ball at his feet, he is sometimes lacking a bit with the way the Celtic manager wants to play but the big thing is for goalkeepers, he makes saves.

"Remember what came before Joe Hart, and the mess Celtic were in. Barkas was signed for big money, Hazard came in, Bain had his shot, all culminated in disaster, he has brought stability that been repaid by success and trophies."
