Joe Gomez will want to stay at Liverpool instead of leaving for more game time amid their quadruple push this season, one pundit has claimed.

The 24-year-old centre-back has enjoyed something of a rollercoaster spell at Anfield following his 2015 signing. After initial injury problems, he played a key part in the Reds’ Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Last term, he spent most of the campaign out with another lengthy injury issue.

And while he has stayed fit so far this season, Gomez has found regular game time hard to come by. Indeed, last summer’s centre-back addition Ibrahima Konate has taken the third-choice spot in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks.

Gomez has therefore had to settle for playing right-back for when Trent Alexander-Arnold needs a rest. With his contract expiring in 2024, reports have claimed that Gomez could leave Liverpool. Aston Villa and newly-promoted Fulham are supposedly showing interest.

According to former goalkeeper Paul Robinson, though, the Reds’ quadruple push has meant Gomez is “proving his worth” to Klopp.

“Gomez is proving his worth and I think they’ll keep him,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I don’t think Liverpool will have a problem persuading players to stay either. Yes, players want to play every week but when you are competing for four trophies it is different.#
