Jimmy Thelin promised Aberdeen FC switch warrants a 'proper' send off as Elfsborg love affair comes to an end

Elfsborg bosses have vowed to give departing manager Jimmy Thelin a "proper" send off ahead of his summer move to Aberdeen.

Early on Tuesday afternoon, it was confirmed that the 46-year-old - who led Elfsborg to within a whisker of the Allsvenskan title last season after missing out to winners Malmo on goal difference - will succeed Barry Robson in the hot seat in the Granite City on June 3. Swede Thelin will become the Dons' 25th permanent manager in their 121 year history and only the second foreign coach to take on the role, following the late Ebbe Skovdahl's eventful spell at Pittodrie between 1999 and 2002.

The former Jonkopings Sodra boss will also be joined at Aberdeen by his two assistants, Christer Persson and Emir Bajrami, with both the coaching and playing staff set for another shake-up at Cormack Park next summer. Aberdeen have failed to secure a top six finish in the Premiership but could still end the season on a high as interim manager Peter Leven gears up for a meeting with Celtic in the last four of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Thelin's final game in charge of Elfsborg will come two days before his exit on June 1, with his side on the road against IFK Gothenburg. The Boras-based club sit 10th in the Swedish top tier after three matches in the new season, and suffered a heavy 3-0 away defeat to Hammarby on Monday night.

Elfsborg director Stefan Andreasson has revealed the Reds lengthy pursuit of Thelin and has promised that his club will give their departing boss the best possible send-off before he swaps the Allsvenskan for the Scottish Premiership.
