Jimmy Thelin Aberdeen FC transfer warning as new boss told he will be priced out of raid for Elfsborg stars

Aberdeen fans have been warned that they will be priced out of a move for any Elfsborg players this summer if new boss Jimmy Thelin decides to try and raid his old club.

The Swedish coach will officially take up the reins at Pittodrie next week, after leading Allsvenskan side Elfsborg to within a whisker of the league title last season, missing out to champions Malmo on goal difference. The 46-year-old will be looking to freshen up a Dons squad that endured a torrid campaign in the Premiership after failing to make the top six, and there has been some suggestion that he may look to return to his homeland for potential new signings.

But the chairman of the Svenska Fotbollssupporterunionen (SFSU) – the Swedish football supporters’ union - and a former chairman of the Elfsborg Supporters Association, Isak Eden, says that the Pittodrie club simply won't be able to compete with teams down in England in the race to land Elfsborg's prized assess. Newly promoted Premier League side Leicester City and Middlesbrough in the English Championship are both reportedly targeting £2million rated attacking midfielder Michael Baidoo, while the six-time Allsvenskan winners sold Icelandic international goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson - who is said to be a loan target for Thelin this summer - to Brentford back in January for £3million.

Eden also believes Elfsborg players looking to further their careers elsewhere will see themselves above the level that Aberdeen are currently operating at. In an interview with The Press and Journal, he said: "I don’t think there will be players coming over to Aberdeen from Elfsborg.
