Jhon Arias in Rangers transfer link as Ibrox club could raid Fluminense despite failed Jefte chase

John Arias can count Rangers among his growing number of transfer suitors, according to reports in Colombia.

The wide man is currently plying his trade in Brazil with Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense, but has been tipped for a move to Europe before long, with the 26-year-old set to star in this summer's Copa America for Colombia. Philippe Clement brought in compatriot Oscar Cortes on loan in January, but the 20-year-old is currently injured and it's yet to be confirmed either way if he will make his move from Lens permanent on a four-year contract.

With the long-term futures of Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright not yet secure under Clement, Arias is said to be on the Ibrox club's radar. However, the likes of Atletico Madrid keeping tabs along with English outfits West Ham, Burnley, Wolves and Crystal Palace. Arias is contracted until 2026 and Fluminense are set to ask for at least €10million and a future sell on fee, with the asking price likely to be a major stumbling block for Rangers should that figure remain hard and fast.

South American journalist Christian Martin said: “Rangers of Scotland would also be one of those interested in a player with good footing, with experience, with speed, with good management of small spaces, with definition and with that technique has had implications for European football."

Of course, the Light Blues were set to land Brazilian left back Jefte from Fluminense in January. However, that deal fell through and resulted in the player being disciplined by his club for going AWOL in the aftermath of the failed transfer.
