Jermaine Jenas removed from BBC presenting roles amid inappropriate behaviour claims

Former England and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has been dropped from his presenter role at the BBC. Having co-hosted The One Show with Alex Jones since 2020, and featuring prominently on Match of the Day 2 and during live matches, the decision comes after Jenas faced accusations.

The Daily Mail uncovered that the ex-Nottingham Forest and Newcastle player was let go from his annual £190,000 position due to claims of "inappropriate behaviour". This development was later confirmed by a BBC spokesman who informed the Mirror: "We can confirm that Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up."

Jenas, who earned 21 caps for England, ended his playing career in 2016 at 34 years old, hampered by injuries throughout his time on the pitch. His transition to television saw him being considered as a potential replacement for Gary Lineker on Match of the Day.

Lineker himself voiced that Jenas would be a "good" choice for the position. Expressing ambition, Jenas had earlier stated to the Mail in 2023 about his aspirations to take over when Lineker steps down.

"I would obviously be up for it... it's Match of the Day and it would be a great opportunity," he stated. "I haven't thought that far ahead but I hosted Match of the Day 2, which was the first one I've ever done. I loved it, it felt comfortable to me, it felt normal, and I love doing The One Show as well.", reports Football London.

He added: "I feel quite blessed that I'm even in people's minds that it's something I could take on given how big the show actually is."
