Jermain Defoe sends message to Sunderland fans after return to Wearside

Sunderland perhaps caught the imagination more than most at the end of the January transfer window with them bringing in former striker Jermain Defoe for a second spell.

The 39-year-old was available as a free agent and so there was no rush to get the deal done but it sounded as though plenty of clubs were keen on him after he had left Rangers earlier on in the campaign.

Indeed, among the clubs forming a queue were Sunderland, with the Black Cats and Defoe enjoying a fine working relationship during his first spell at the Stadium of Light, with them in the Premier League.

And, now with them looking to get out of League One, they have managed to get him back to Wearside, with him surely feeling as though he still has lots to give given how well he has looked after himself.

He certainly appears ready to get going:
