Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to doubters after scoring in Manchester United win over Brighton

Cristiano Ronaldo made a point to try and silence his doubters after scoring in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday night, ending something of a scoring drought by his standards.

It was Ronaldo’s first goal of 2022, having last found the back of the net in a 3-1 win over Burnley on 30 December last year.

The 37-year-old ended the drought in some style firing a powerful effort past Robert Sanchez from the edge of the penalty area in the second half, before Bruno Fernandes scored a late second.

There has been plenty of talk about Ronaldo struggling for form of late and whether he has a future at Manchester United beyond this season, but the Portuguese legend was keen to remind people that he is only focussed on the Red Devils and has no time for the chatter.

Ronaldo tweeted: ‘Back on track! Nobody gives up and there’s only one way to get back on track: hard work, team work, serious work.

‘Everything else is just noise. Let’s go Devils!’

Reports suggest that Ronaldo will happily stay at Old Trafford for another season beyond this one, but only if the Red Devils qualify for the Champions League.

The victory over the Seagulls puts United into fourth place in the Premier League but the battle is on for that position, with West Ham, Arsenal, Wolves and Tottenham all still in contention.
