Jeremy Doku opens up on his style vs substance dilemma at Man City and learning from Ronaldinho

Jeremy Doku accepts he must work on his end product when it comes to his dribbling, but insists he won't stop taking on full-backs.

Doku was a £55.5m signing from Rennes this summer and has made a positive start to life at City. His direct style and relentless intention to get past defenders have made him a fan favourite, as has his tendency to score important goals.

However, with City famous for their control and slower build-up, Doku represents a complete contrast to the likes of Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva on the wing who may slow the tempo a little more. That difference was summed up at Copenhagen, when Grealish went off injured to be replaced by Doku, who had to focus on the tactical side of his game more than usual.

“I feel good. When I’m on the pitch I always try to give my best and to be decisive," he said of his substitute appearance in Denmark.

"Today was a good performance - I didn’t start but every player knows that when you don’t start and come in, you have to bring something to the team and that’s what I tried to do today.”

Discussing his inspiration for his exciting playing style, Doku pointed to legends Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as his early role models - but admits that he still has to learn when the right moment is to go direct and when to keep the ball and find a teammate.

“I liked Messi, Ronaldinho - there were a lot of dribblers that I really liked," he said. "When I was little, I watched a lot of videos on YouTube then I created something of my own and played on the street, now
