Jelena Ostapenko throws water bottle and storms off court after fourth-round Wimbledon loss

Jelena Ostapenko was booed off court after she threw a water bottle following her fourth-round defeat at Wimbledon.

The world number 17 was stunned by Germany’s Tatjana Maria, who reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final just 15 months after giving birth to her second child.

Maria came back from one set down to triumph 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, with Ostapenko wasting two match points.

The Latvian was clearly frustrated by the loss, throwing a water bottle at her chair before storming off Court One.

The crowd were unimpressed by Ostapenko’s behaviour, booing the star as she walked off. She later claimed Maria had been “lucky” to win.

“I just made mistakes. She just collected all my mistakes, unforced errors, and that’s how she won today,” she said.

“I thought it was my match, I had to win it, and she got just so lucky in some moments so she could come back. I felt I was the player who had to win this match today.”

The chair's post-match interview is going to be pretty tasty!
