Jeff Stelling slams Matty Cash booking after Aston Villa star reveals Ukraine message

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash revealed a message of support for Poland international teammate Tomasz Kedziora after scoring in the 2-0 win over Brighton at the Amex on Saturday.

Cash netted the opening goal of the game with a fine effort from outside the box which arrowed beyond Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as the ball slammed off the post and into the back of the net.

The Villa right-back then removed his shirt in the celebrations that followed to show a message the message: "Tomasz Kedziora + family stay strong my bro."

Kedziora plays for Dynamo Kyiv and a number of the Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk players have found themselves stranded in the war-torn cities.

All matches in the Ukrainian Premier League were suspended indefinitely on Thursday after the country declared martial law amid the Russian invasion.

Cash was commended by supporters and pundits for his tribute, but he did receive a booking for taking his shirt off.

Sky Sports present Jeff Stelling has pleaded with the Premier League for his yellow card to be removed.

"It's a message for people in Ukraine and he's been booked for it," Stelling slammed on Sky Sports.

"Look, John Brooks is an inexperienced Premier League referee. Hopefully, when people come to their senses, the Premier League will just ignore that, they should just ignore that."
