Jed Wallace makes West Brom promise after completing transfer
Jed Wallace has promised that West Brom ‘won’t fall short on effort’ in their attempts to make it second time lucky in securing a return to the Premier League. Wallace, 28, has followed fellow Portsmouth lad John Swift through the doors of The Hawthorns this summer.
Both winger Wallace and playmaker Swift were at the top of manager Steve Bruce’s wish-list, having left Millwall and Reading at the end of their respective contracts. The two players will boost the creative aspect of the Albion squad, having contributed to 42 Championship goals between them last season.
Wallace, formerly of Wolverhampton Wanderers, was enticed by the opportunity he’d receive at Albion after speaking to ‘ambitious’ boss Bruce, who informed him of his plans for the forthcoming Championship season. Having spent six years at Millwall, he was keen to make the switch to a side who he feels can be a Premier League outfit again next year.
By clinching promotion, Wallace would fulfil a career-long ambition of playing in England’s top flight. He won’t be giving up at any point in the new campaign as he and the Baggies seek to realise that target.
“When you look at the club over the last 15 years, certainly in my life-time, they’ve always been at the top of this league, if not the league above,” Wallace said. “That aligns with where I want to be playing my football. I think it’s a huge show of intent for them to bring Swifty in, who I know.
“That’s a very impressive signing. He’s a top quality player at this level, along the rest of a very talented squad and I want to aim to get promoted. I’ve been trying to do that for the last three or four seasons. I feel like I can find that ambition here. We’ll never fall short on effort. I’m looking forward to
