Jeanfield Swifts manager Ross Gunnion praises patience after comeback win against Crossgates

Jeanfield Swifts bounced back from a goal down on Wednesday night to defeat Crossgates and remain amongst the East of Scotland Premier Division leaders.

The Fife visitors had seized the upper hand just shy of the half hour mark through Cammy Muirhead and held that lead until the break.

But second-half goals from Dayle Robertson and Chris Scott flipped the script and pushed Swifts to third in the table, just three points off the top.

Manager Ross Gunnion said: “The result doesn’t reflect just how good we were on the night in our opinion.

“We played at tempo and with aggression throughout and but for some good goalkeeping would have taken a lead into half-time.

“The second half the players came out focused and didn’t panic, continued to play the way they had been and deservedly claimed the three points.

“Take nothing away from Crossgates who are a very strong team. They’ve started the season incredibly well and will be a force this season, of that there is no doubt. And I think that emphasises just how good we were on the night.”

Swifts now travel to league leaders Penicuik on Saturday afternoon.

“The win sets everything up for a very tough clash against the league leaders, and probably title favourites in Penicuik,” Gunnion said.

“They’ve shown over the last couple of seasons they are a force in this league and will be fancying their chances of going all the way this season.

“We showed we can beat them when we won 4-1 at Riverside last season when Penicuik were pushing to win the league. That’s what we’ll be reminding the players come Saturday.”
