Jay Slater fundraiser hits £30,000 as well wishers donate up to £600 each

The official GoFundMe page for missing teenager Jay Slater has reached its 30k target. Jay, 19, had been at a music festival in Tenerife before he disappeared on Monday, having told his friend Lucy Mae Law he ‘didn’t know where he was’, needed a drink of water and had 1% battery on his phone.

The area where his mobile was tracked was in the Rural de Teno Park - or the National Park of Teno - which is an area popular with hikers, near the village of Masca.

The teenager had been to stay in a rental apartment with people he had met on the island after a night out on Sunday, Lucy said. But their apartment was 'in the middle of nowhere' and Jay's phone ran out of battery as he set off to walk back the following morning.

His family and friends flew out to the Spanish Island earlier this week as extensive search efforts began. Meanwhile, the Brit’s friend Lucy, has set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding page to help get ‘Jay Slater home’.

The page has now raised its £30,000 target - with some well wishers donating up to £600 each.

Posting on the page, Lucy wrote: “Hi everyone my name is Lucy. I have come on holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG festival with my friend Jay & another friend. On the last day of the festival, I left alone, earlier than everyone else, because I was tired from the weekend.

“I woke up to a phone call off Jay at 8:30 AM saying “he was lost in the mountains, he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, he desperately needed a drink & his phone was on 1%”. He had met 2 people on Sunday night and left with them to go to their apartment. Their apartment was miles away from civilisation and in a very secluded location. He left
