Cristiano Ronaldo is creating a ‘problem’ for former Man United teammate Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes is grappling with a 'problem' at Euro 2024 due to Cristiano Ronaldo's declining speed, as reported by a Portuguese media outlet. The pair are reunited in the dressing room this summer after an 18-month stint together at Manchester United.

During their time at Old Trafford, there were worries that Fernandes and Ronaldo weren't maximising each other's potential. In the 2021/22 season, Fernandes only netted 10 goals across all competitions - his lowest tally since joining the Red Devils.

Despite these concerns, the duo still demonstrated good synergy in Portugal's 3-0 triumph over Turkey on Saturday, with Ronaldo selflessly setting up Fernandes for his country's third goal.

However, the Portuguese press has expressed some apprehension about the dynamics in Roberto Martinez's attacking line-up, considering Rafael Leao's preference on the left, Bernardo Silva's lack of speed on the right, and Ronaldo leading the attack.

"Bernardo is not explosive, Ronaldo no longer possesses the speed he once had, and Leao prefers the ball at his feet," penned the Observador newspaper. "All of this poses a problem for Bruno, who enjoys fast-paced play, thrives in a more fragmented game, allowing him to make breakaway passes and take shots from the edge of the box.

"He attempted all of that, but nothing particularly successful came of it until finally, in the 55th minute, he was unmarked at the right moment to receive Ronaldo's assist and score."
