Jason Stockwood keen to 'kick on' as Grimsby Town co-owner sends warning to League Two rivals

Grimsby Town co-owner Jason Stockwood has sent a warning to other League Two clubs with the Mariners chairman keen to ‘kick on’ following promotion back to the fourth tier at the first time of asking last term.

A dramatic playoff final victory over Solihull Moors last month saw the Lincolnshire outfit achieve promotion from the National League, having been relegated out of the Football League last year.

Now, with Town back where they want to be, Stockwood is only looking ahead after a productive summer that has seen five new additions join with others pending.

“We want to kick on,” the Grimsby co-owner told BBC Radio Humberside. “You look at the additions, the players we’ve brought in, the infrastructure investment that we’ve made, we know the art of the possible now.

“One of the dangers of coming into a business and getting success early is that you want more of it and we’re no different with that. So, I think we’re really careful at making sure we retain the squad that we wanted so it’s brilliant to see all of the players sign.”

Despite adding Otis Khan, Stephen Wearne, Danilo Orsi, Niall Maher and Anthony Glennon to Paul Hurt’s ranks, the Mariners did lose a key player in Ben Fox who joined League Two rivals Northampton Town this summer, with the Cobblers the first club to visit Blundell Park this season.

“We wish Ben Fox well,” Stockwood claimed. “I hope we knock six past him on the opening home game of the season but look, ultimately the people that wanted to stay could see what we want as a club and the mission we’re on. So that was brilliant.
