Japanese GP: Pierre Gasly left raging after nearly hitting tractor on track
Pierre Gasly was fuming at the Japanese Grand Prix after an incident during the Safety Car period prior to the red flag, with a recovery vehicle on track during treacherous conditions.
After a Rolex advertising barrier found its way onto track following Carlos Sainz’s crash, Gasly was forced to pit prior to the red flag so he could have it removed and have a new front wing put on his vehicle.
However, as he was aiming to catch up to the rest of the pack, he encountered a recovery vehicle that was on the track as he was flying around, narrowly missing it, which could have been disastrous.
“I could have killed myself, why is there a tractor out there?!” Pierre Gasly is rightly furious #F1 #JapaneseGP pic.twitter.com/Xg2QCahr60
Clearly the Frenchman is incensed and rightly so, it could have been a disaster, thankfully nothing came from it but the unnecessary danger was still there which is not good enough.
We saw a similar incident at Monza, however, there were clear conditions with much less risk there, compared to the conditions in Japan where there was an increased risk of something serious happening, with more chance of drivers losing control of the cars at any speed.
Other drivers have shown their frustrations with the incident, with Lando Norris taking to social media during the red flag delay to voice his disdain, saying: “Wtf. How’s this happened!? We lost a life in this situation years ago. We risk our lives, especially in conditions like this. We wanna race. But this… Unacceptable.”
Pretty sure this shows the race going red just before Gasly reaches the recovery vehicle. It should not be on track until the field was all behind the Safety Car. That's why Gasly was understandably raging #F1
