Jamie Finn suffers serious knee injury during Republic of Ireland training

Jamie Finn suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear yesterday while training for the Republic of Ireland in Italy

Finn, who missed out of a place in the Ireland squad for last year's World Cup, is set for a substantial spell on the sidelines.

The Birmingham City player was set to feature for Ireland in friendlies against Italy and Wales over the next week before the setback.

Finn has remained in Italy ahead of the fixture tomorrow in Florence (Live on RTÉ News/RTÉ Player) but it hasn't been confirmed what the next steps are in her rehabilitation.

Denise O'Sullivan and Tyler Toland are also missing the two games but the long-term absence of Finn is a much greater setback for manager Eileen Gleeson.

"It's bad for her and for us, poor Jamie," Gleeson told the Irish Independent.

"It affects the group but once we get out the focus will be on the game tomorrow and all the support systems will be in place for Jamie.

"We will all look after her, medical staff will give the best of attention and she will want the girls to do well."

Meanwhile, the draw for the Group Stages of the Women's All-Island Cup 2024 has taken place.

The competition kicks off on Saturday, 23 March with teams listed as numbers 1 & 3 playing at home twice and away once, while numbers 2 & 4 playing once at home and twice away, with full fixture details to be confirmed in due course.
