Jamie Carragher absolutely tore into the Roman Abramovich era at Chelsea on Monday Night Football

It’s certainly been a tough five days for Chelsea Football Club.

Last Thursday, the Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich had his assets frozen by the UK government.

The sanctions imposed on the Russian billionaire mean Chelsea’s future is currently up in the air, with the club now up for sale.

Abramovich won’t receive a single penny of the proceeds when the west London outfit eventually find a new owner due to the intervention of the UK government.

As football stories go, they don’t come much bigger and Chelsea’s situation was unsurprisingly a topic of conversation on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

After comparing the Blues’ striking options in Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville moved on to the end of the Abramovich era at Stamford Bridge.

And Carragher didn’t hold back one bit in his assessment.

At the start of the segment, the Liverpool legend said he understood the frustrations of fans over the fact that rival clubs are now looking to take advantage of Chelsea.

However, Carragher then stated that he believed it was also a “hypocritical” stance, because in his opinion, the west London club have been doing exactly that for the best part of two decades.

He then listed the ways in which Chelsea have taken advantage of other clubs, including their pursuit of Steven Gerrard and the manner in which they signed Ashley Cole from Arsenal.
