Jamie Carragher tells Man United who to appoint out of Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino
Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United should appoint Erik ten Hag as manager, despite the Ajax boss being knocked out of the Champions League this week.
Ten Hag remains one of the frontrunners to become United's permanent manager this summer, along with Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino. United are looking to make an appointment before the end of the season.
Both managers have suffered in the Champions League over the past week. Less than seven days on from Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain PSG side throwing away a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid, Ten Hag and Ajax suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Benfica as they were dumped out of the competition, with the Portuguese side going through to the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Despite his side's early exit from the competition, Ten Hag still remains the favourite among many United supporters to take on the job at the end of the season. And Carragher agrees that the Dutch giants’ exit from Europe shouldn’t sway United in their decision-making.
“It shouldn't do. You can't judge a manager on one game,” Carragher told CBS Sports. “I think it's damaged Mauricio Pochettino more than the Ajax manager because the team they had, the situation they found themselves in that game and you're actually looking at his management as one of the reasons why they went out.”
Carragher has urged United to target Thomas Tuchel in recent days, with the Chelsea boss’ future in doubt after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government. But when asked by fellow pundit Micah Richards who United should hire, the former Liverpool defender went a different way.
