'Ideal person' - What Dan Ashworth can bring to Newcastle as Magpies make statement signing

"Newcastle United is an incredible football club and I’m delighted to be joining at this very exciting time.” Ashworth said. “Each time I’ve been to St. James’ Park in the past, I have been reminded of the club's long history and the unrivalled passion of its fan base.

“It is a huge football club with great potential, and I am incredibly positive about what we can collectively achieve. I’m excited to start work immediately and look forward to being part of a team that is helping the club to grow and achieve long-term success."

Former Magpie James Milner has today signed a one-year contract extension at Liverpool with significantly reduced personal terms reported.

The 36-year-old is understood to have had one offer from a Premier League club and two more from overseas, but decided to remain on Merseyside where he made 39 appearances last season.

Milner tweeted: “Couldn’t be happier to extend my stay with this incredible club for another year. Playing football is a privilege and even more so here. Thanks for the support, will do my best to repay it”

Milner will remain at Liverpool until at least the summer of 2023.
