James McCarthy drops big hint on his Dublin future
James McCarthy has given the biggest indication yet that he is open to another season with the Dublin senior footballers.
In the wake of Dublin's two-point All-Ireland final victory over Kerry this summer, the team captain strongly hinted that he was ready to call time on his illustrious inter-county career.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport in the aftermath of that final, the nine-time All-Ireland winner said: "It's not a bad way to probably wrap it up, is it? We'll see," when asked about his future.
However the midfielder appears to be ready to throw his lot in again for 2024 and a tilt at a record-equalling tenth medal.
The 33-year-old lined out for Shelbourne FC Legends in a charity soccer match to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland at the weekend and speaking to soccer blog Striker Online, indicated that the door remains open for him and Dublin.
When it was put to McCarthy that 10 is a "nice round number", he replied: "You'd have to give it a crack, don’t you I suppose? We’ll give it a belt and see what happens."
