James Maddison reveals Aberdeen rocket that stunned Rangers is career best as Tottenham star grins over fiery rivalry

James Maddison admits he's yet to score a better goal in his career than the one he blasted into the top corner for Aberdeen against Rangers.

He's now one of the Premier League's best playmakers under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, but the 27-year-old feels it was at Pittodrie where one of his best moments occurred. Derek McInnes brought him to the Premiership on loan in the 2016/17 season, where he netted a memorable stoppage-time free-kick to inflict a 2-1 defeat on Rangers.

The teams meet again this weekend at Pittodrie and in a Q&A session with Spurs fans, Maddison has been left grinning over the moment his Dons stint is largely remembered by. After his stint in red, Maddison went back to parent club Norwich City, where form caught Leicester City attention. He won the FA Cup with the Foxes and completed his big move to Tottenham in the summer.

When asked about his favourite goal in life throughout his career, the playmaker responded to club media: "I would probably say the goal I scored for Aberdeen when I was on loan as an 18 or 19-year-old against Rangers.

"It was the first time the two sides met in however many years since Rangers had to drop down the leagues and it was the first year they were back in the Premiership. There is a big rivalry between the two and I scored a last-minute free-kick winner and we won 2-1.

"That one is just a little bit above the rest cause of the whole dynamic. I was only young and that was kind of me putting myself out there so I will go with that one."
