James Jeggo's Hibs tackle wasn't even a FOUL never mind a red so let's hope common sense prevails - Tam McManus

Hibs will probably have been a bit worried submitting their appeal against Jimmy Jeggo’s red card.

The Graeme Shinnie controversy last week has got everyone on their toes but for me the incidents are completely different. I felt Shinnie’s challenge was a sending off and Aberdeen had no chance of getting it overturned. Jeggo’s tackle wasn’t even a FOUL never mind a red – and it would be brutal it his ban isn’t scrubbed. And it would be absolutely ridiculous if he copped an extra match suspension for appealing like the Dons man did.

There’s no way this attempt can be seen as frivolous – instead it’a completely warranted. Listen, I get the game has changed and there are certain tackles you just can’t make. I'm not one of these guys who always harks back to the old days. Mind you, if we had these rules back then I think guys like John Hughes and Mixu Paatelainen would have been in plenty of bother. Big Yogo and Mixu would be lucky to rack up 30 career appearances in this climate. But even so, Jeggo’s red still wasn’t merited.

Shinnie went in with force and was reckless. There’s no way Jeggo’s challenge was in the same boat. He slid in, won the ball and that was it. The Shinnie one split opinion and created huge debate. You even had pundits arguing over it.

I haven’t’ seen a single person suggesting this was the correct call with Jegoo. Well, apart from some former refs. I heard Stuart Dougal describe it as a potential leg breaker. Come off it. Anyone who has played the game knows a dangerous tackle – and this wasn’t one of them. I’m just shocked the video assistant referee didn’t overturn it at the time. The argument is they didn’t feel it was a clear and obvious error from the referee, so they let the decisions stand.
