Jadon Sancho issues derby day apology as Harry Maguire identifies Manchester United weakness

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has issued an apology to the club's supporters following Sunday's 4-1 defeat to arch rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

United, who were beaten 2-0 by City in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in November, were no match for their cross-city counterparts, with two goals each from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez sealing a comfortable win for the home side. Sancho, following De Bruyne's early opener, did bring United level with an excellent strike, but City turned the heat up after the break and got the job done with ease.

United folded and collapsed in the second half, failing to register a single shot on goal. City, who netted twice after the break through Mahrez, dominated the second period of the game and every pass was greeted with a chorus of 'ole's from their fans, with United proving to be no match and, ultimately, giving up once Mahrez made it 3-1.

United's Shola Shoretire has been nominated for the Premier League 2's Player of the Month award.

Shoretire played in each of United's U23s' three fixtures throughout February in the Premier League 2 and enjoyed a stellar month, providing three assists and scoring once against West Ham, Crystal Palace and Derby County. The 18-year-old has established himself as a key player in the academy under Neil Wood and made his full United debut last season.
