Jack Ross enters next Motherwell manager race but key contender drops out with three men named on 'shortlist'

Former Dundee United and Hibs boss Jack Ross is one of three managers Motherwell will speak with about replacing Steven Hammell.

The Steelmen are currently under the guidance of interim gaffer Stuart Kettlewell after the legendary 'Well left-back was sacked last Saturday after a 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat to Raith Rovers, amid a fight for Premiership survival. Kettlewell guided them to a 2-1 win over St Mirren - their first in league since Halloween - but the hunt continues for a new manager.

According to the Scottish Sun, Ross is one man Motherwell chiefs will speak to about the role this week, alongside two other unnamed candidates on a 'shortlist.' The 46-year-old's time at Tannadice ended after just a few months and a 9-0 humbling by Celtic, but he won the Championship at St Mirren alongside a stint at Hibs where he finished third, making the Scottish Cup and League Cup finals before getting his marching orders.

Ross has also had a crack at English football with Sunderland. He was relieved of his duties after losing the play-off final that saw the Black Cats stay in League One for another season.

One man who won't be the next Motherwell manager is Tommy Wright. He was reported as a potential target for them but fresh claims suggest the former St Johnstone and Kilmarnock leader is no longer in the running, having previously been linked before Graham Alexander was appointed in 2021.
