Jack Pegden from Ramsgate and Orpington’s Chloe Cleaver win men’s and women’s singles titles at Kent County Tennis Championships

Kent’s county champions were crowned at Bromley Tennis Centre, with titles up for grabs from under-8s through to adult categories.

Now in their 93rd year, the championships’ men’s singles went to Ramsgate’s Jack Pegden after his win over Rochester’s Timothy Viding. Chloe Cleaver of Orpington beat Martina Jackaninova (Eltham Park) to the women’s title.

Viding made up for his defeat in the main event with victory over Pegden in the under-18 category while Shooters Hill’s Daisy Rowland was the under-18 girls’ champion following her victory over Judy Zhang of Orpington.

Awards and county colours recipients were also announced.

Canterbury’s Ben Gusic-Wan is the junior player of the year and under-11s Darnay Hunnygen (Bromley), Tony Kehane (Park Langley), Eoin Lambourn (Gillingham), Luke Pratten (Dartford) and Matyas Oprchal (Canterbury) won team of the year. Junior county colours were awarded to Ewan Grieve (Canterbury), Adrian Leung (Bromley), Pegden, Matthew Wilkes (Bromley), Daisy Carpenter (Sundridge Park), Becky Fisher (Sevenoaks), Rowland, Daniella Scotland (Sevenoaks).

The voluntary work that keeps clubs going was also recognised, with special mentions for Hayes Tennis Club’s Ava-Lily Morgan, Oakwood in Dartford’s Avneet Narwan, Oscar Lee and Isobel Hall, Old Wilsonians’ Omar Edet and Ethan Burrill, Sevenoaks’ Simon Fabris and Max de Mariveles and Shooters Hill’s Samuel Morgan and Thomas Guichard.
