ITV The 1% Club's final question leaves viewers - and final two contestants - utterly stumped

The 1% Club, as fans know, is rarely a walk in the park. The latest episode proved as difficult as usual with two top players failing to answer the final question.

Maisie and Alex both made it through to the final 1% question after smashing their previous questions, Birmingham Live reports.

But they were left stumped by the very last question, as were viewers at home. Fans of the ITV quiz show said they didn't even try to work out the head-scratcher in the allotted 30 seconds timeframe.

Are you clever enough to work out the correct answer? Have a look at the tricky question below, and then scroll down for the answer...

Both Maisie and Alex chose not to gamble and answer the question for a shot at £100,000. They both left with £5,000 each instead.

The question was: "Given that: 0+100 =100, 1+99 = 100, 2+98 =100, What is the sum of all the whole numbers between zero and 100?"

Maisie and Alex both guessed 5,000, but both got the answer wrong.

The contestants on the show only have 30 seconds to lock in their answer but give yourself a little longer and see if you can get there.

The answer was actually 5050. Lee explained why to the stumped contestants, revealing: "There are 50 pairs that total 100 (0and100, 1and99, 2and98 etc.). That makes 5000, but there is also the number 50 in the middle, that is not in a pair but also needs to be counted, giving a total of 5050."

Many viewers at home were just as confused as the remaining players. One wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "I didn't even try with that one. Maths is hard enough on a calculator for me, never mind doing it in my head in 30 seconds."
