ITV Love Island fans complain about major new change in format

Love Island viewers have flocked to complain about the show's new public vote format as the 2022 kicked off on Monday night (June 6). Fans couldn't believe what they were seeing as the long-running opening segment when Islanders choose who they want to be coupled-up with was binned in favour of a new idea.

Host Laura Whitmore arrived in the famous TV villa on the ITV2 show, in which couples aim to win a £50,000 prize, to tell the Islanders that there was a major change. Instead of the Islanders having their pick, the public had been asked to pair up the couples in a vote.

One of the pairings - dressage rider Gemma Owen with student Liam Llewellyn, got off to an awkward start. And Gemma admitted that she was more attracted to newcomer Davide Sanclimenti, from Manchester, who turned heads when he walked into the villa in a partially unbuttoned shirt.

@tiyxrna fumed on Twitter: "Never get the public to vote again." @loveislandburnr asked: "Why did the public vote these pairings like?" And @MiZz_Virtuous wrote: "They should have made the girls step forward for who they were attracted to and then revealed who they have to couple up with based on public vote."
