ITV Corrie fans ask "what?" after David Platt's age is revealed as they complain of feeling "dizzy"

Coronation Street fans were left gobsmacked as soap legend David Platt's age was revealed minutes into Wednesday night's episode (February 22). Over breakfast a downcast David admitted to his mum Gail that his long-suffering wife Shona had left him.

David has been spiralling since his son Max was put behind bars after pleading guilty to encouraging terrorism, which led to Alya Nazir being stabbed at the bistro by racist teen Blake. In Monday night's Corrie, David got drunk after being told Max didn't want to see him.

There was a shock as he tried to kiss his friend Maria Windass, who recoiled in horror and reminded him they were both married, and that David was drunk. But Maria's husband Gary went on the rampage and told Shona while confronting David in the Rovers.

A furious Shona walked out on him. When Gail asked where Shona was because she'd made a dentist appointment for his daughter Lily, he admitted to messing up and she scolded: "You're 32 years of age, Whever you've done sort it for Lily's sake."

And viewers were amazed. @Rozzy67 exclaimed about world-weary David: "#Corrie wait, what? David is only 32? I thought he was pushing 40!" @runninoncaffine also remarked: "David 32 more like 42."

@deadstar37 asked: "Since when was I older than David Platt?!" And @LouiseHazeldine wondered: "How is David only 32??" After all, David has been through so much. The son of Gail and her ex husband Martin Platt, born on Christmas Day 1990, has been played by Jack P Shepherd since 2000.
