ITV Coronation Street slapped with official Ofcom complaints after viewers switch off 'horror movie' acid attack scenes

Coronation Street has been slapped with a string of official complaints after it aired hard-hitting scenes. Fans of the ITV soap were left horrified when Justin Rutherford returned to Weatherfield on Daisy Midgeley's wedding day and unleashed a horrific attack on the bride-to-be.

Daisy's stalker was lurking in the shadows at the Rovers Return as the pair locked up the pub ahead of her wedding to Daniel Osbourne. In her wedding dress and ready to head to the venue, the barmaid's blood ran cold when she heard Justin's voice. After suggesting things were too perfect for her, Justin hurled acid in Daisy's direction.

But in a shocking twist Ryan Connor stepped in and the character, played by Ryan Prescott, was writhing and screaming while Daisy, portrayed by actress Charlotte Jordan, who was also caught by the acid as Justin barged his way out of the pub, called 999 and was instructed to get him into the shower.

She rushed him upstairs and held him under the cold-running water before the emergency services arrived and rushed him off to hospital. Following the scenes, Corrie fans flocked to social media to share both their horror at what they witnessed and their praise for the ITV soap team, particularly actors Ryan, Charlotte and Andrew Still, who was later arrested as Justin when he later appeared at the hospital.

It has now been confirmed that Coronation Street was hit with 72 complaints to Ofcom following Monday night's episode (March 27). The broadcasting watchdog confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that the complaints were in relation to scenes depicting an acid attack.
