Italy's Leonardo Bonucci had priceless reaction when steward thought he was a fan
Leonardo Bonucci was an absolute colossus for Italy at Euro 2020.
Alongside his partner-in-crime Giorgio Chiellini, the Juventus centre-back thwarted the best attacking players the continent had to offer.
Bonucci was deservedly named in the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament, along with fellow countryman Gianluigi Donnarumma, Leonardo Spinazzola, Jorginho and Federico Chiesa.
Arguably Bonucci’s best performance last summer came in Italy’s thrilling semi-final victory over Spain.
La Roja dominated the game from pretty much start to finish, but the Azzurri stood firm and conceded just the one goal, which was an equaliser from Alvaro Morata.
Bonucci and Chiellini repelled the constant waves of attack from Spain with authority. Without them stationed at the back, Italy would almost certainly have been handsomely beaten.
A stellar defensive display from Bonucci wasn’t enough, though. He stepped up in the penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium and cooly fired his spot kick past Unai Simon.
And then to top it all off, the former AC Milan centre-back was involved in one of the funniest incidents witnessed at Euro 2020 after Jorginho converted from 12 yards to send Italy to the final.
Bonucci went over to celebrate with his nation’s passionate fans following the dramatic victory and while he was doing so, a Wembley steward mistook him for one of the supporters.
His confused reaction was absolutely priceless…
