Italian rider Sonny Colbrelli stable after post-race collapse
Italy's Sonny Colbrelli collapsed after his second-place finish in the opening stage of the Volta a Catalunya.
The Bahrain Victorious rider was taken to hospital in Girona after the first stage of the Spanish tour, with the 31-year-old in a stable condition.
"Following the sprint on stage one of the Volta a Catalunya, Sonny Colbrelli fell unconscious," Bahrain Victorious said in a statement.
"He underwent further medical assistance, and he was in stable condition upon being taken into an ambulance to Hospital Universitari de Girona to investigate his condition further."
Bike Exchange's Michael Matthews won the first stage in Catalunya.
Colbrelli missed Saturday's Milan-San Remo classic with bronchitis.
