Italian GP: 5 big questions that need answers this weekend at Monza

The Italian Grand Prix takes place at Monza this weekend as F1 brings the curtain down on the only triple-header of the season.

It’s been a hectic period since the summer break ended with races at Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort taking place in the last couple of weeks, with it also a period that has seen Max Verstappen really strengthen his grip on the Drivers’ standings.

He’s now over 100 points clear as he looks for that second title but what are the big questions going into this weekend at Monza? We take a look…

The Scuderia are now looking at a second place finish at best in the Constructors’ championship and though that is an improvement on recent seasons, it is not what they would have wanted at the start of the campaign.

They’ll look to learn from this season, though, and will be eager to try and give the Tifosi something to cheer this weekend at Monza.

If either driver wins here, they will assure themselves of iconic status in the Ferrari pantheon of greats.

Mercedes were well off of the pace in Spa and then very strong in Zandvoort, with them arguably favourites for the race win before the late Safety Car botched things up for Lewis Hamilton and his team.

That begs the question, then, which Mercedes will turn up this weekend. Monza is similar to Spa, certainly compared to Zandvoort, and so that might make things difficult for them but then it’s a car that sometimes surprises, and after the disappointment of the Dutch GP they’ll be eager to bounce back.
