“It would have been a conspiracy to see another player win” – Fulham star scoops major accolade: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aleksandar Mitrovic was named Sky Bet Championship player of the season at the EFL awards last night.

The Serbian forward has had a very impressive campaign in 2021/22, breaking the Championship goals record on his way to netting 41 goals in 41 matches so far.

His goals have helped Fulham on their way to automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the Cottagers also in a strong position to be promoted as Champions.

With that being said, we asked three of our writers here at FLW for their thoughts on Mitrovic being named player of the season, and whether or not they thought any other players could feel hard done by.

Richly deserved, it would have been a conspiracy to see another player win the award when the Serbian has netted 41 league goals, and chipped in with seven assists.

It is very unlikely that another striker comes close to the numbers Mitrovic has posted in the coming years, therefore there could only be one winner.

Mitrovic has had one of the better supporting casts the Championship has seen this season, and there were other worthy candidates for the award, but no one can really feel hard done by.

Hopefully, he can kick on and further prove himself in the Premier League next season, to avoid making a mockery of Championship defences.

Although the likes of Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and Lee Nicholls have all produced impressive performance for their sides in their respective positions, Mitrovic has unquestionably been the stand-out performer in the Championship and thus deserves this award.
