"It will really shake them" - Journalist drops claim on "new worries" for Newcastle and PIF

Kieran Trippier’s long-term injury lay-off will ‘really shake’ Newcastle United and prove to be a major setback in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Trippier became the first signing of the Public Investment Fund era by making the £12million switch from reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid last month, but he is already set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Despite being a right-back, Trippier has already shown he is deadly from set-piece situations by scoring free-kicks in back-to-back fixtures for his new employers.

However, having already grabbed what proved to be the match winner against Aston Villa on Sunday, the 31-year-old was forced off the pitch just three minutes into the second half with a foot injury.

Eddie Howe, who was appointed as Newcastle’s head coach in November, admitted after the clash that he ‘desperately’ did not want Trippier to be out for an extensive period after the full-back had made a hugely positive start to his Magpies career.

However, an X-ray has revealed the former Tottenham Hotspur man has sustained a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot, meaning he will be unavailable for the upcoming fixtures.

Trippier has taken to social media to assure Newcastle fans he is already working on his rehabilitation to give himself the best chance of being ‘back fit as quickly as possible’.

Although the Tynesiders have refused to confirm how long the full-back is expected to be out of action for, Trippier is expected to feature again before the end of the season.
