It should be take the p*** out of Hibs time but they're doing something I wish Hearts would – Ryan Stevenson

I had to laugh as I sat down to watch the avalanche of Ian Gordon interviews this week.

Not because of just how many mistakes the Hibs chief had to admit to as he handed out sit-downs to anyone who turned up at Easter Road clutching a microphone. No, it was more of an ironic snigger because in fairness to him, at least he was fronting up and trying to explain to the Leith support why things have gone so badly wrong at the club.

It’s the kind of approach I wish Hearts were taking right now. The Tynecastle faithful should have been having great fun this week, taking the p*** out of their rivals while lapping up all Gordon’s mumbled excuses. Instead, they’re sitting there feeling every bit as gloomy as the Hibs support - only without the answers. It’s about time someone at Hearts came out and explained why all last season’s progress has been allowed to vanish in the space of one summer.

Hearts as a club owe everything to their supporters given they were the ones who dug deep in it’s hour of need. At the very least, those fans deserve to have someone talk to them about what’s going on.

There’s some very basic questions needing addressed: Why haven’t they signed another striker when it’s been clear for a year that the team was overly reliant on Lawrence Shankland? Why was Joe Savage allowed to leave before the end of a transfer window?

And why are they appointing Graeme Jones to fill Savage’s old role sporting director when it looks like he did a very different job at the SFA as head of performance. What makes him qualified to do a job that is so crucial to building the team Steven Naismith is able to put out on the pitch?
