West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Hwang Ui-jo to the London Stadium this summer.
That’s according to a claim made by Hwang himself, with the centre-forward revealing in comments cited by Girondins4Ever (via Sport Witness), that West Ham have submitted an offer to FC Girondins Bordeaux for his services – with it being reported that the recently relegated Ligue 1 side are looking for a figure in the region of €8m (£7m) in order to part with the 29-year-old.
Regarding his future, the South Korea international said: “I’m waiting. Nothing has been decided yet. There will be more details to give you depending on the club’s financial situation, at Bordeaux. It’s true that offers have arrived from FC Nantes and from West Ham United too.”
While many of the London Stadium faithful may not be overly aware of Hwang’s talents, considering just how impressive the forward has been for Bordeaux in recent seasons, the news that Moyes has made an offer for the 29-year-old should have supporters buzzing.
Indeed, despite Les Girondins’ struggles in recent years, the £6.3m-rated striker has consistently impressed ever since his £1.8m move to France back in 2019, scoring six goals and registering two assists over 24 appearances in his debut campaign at the Matmut Atlantique, as well as bagging 12 goals and providing three assists over 36 league outings in 2020/21.
The £25k-per-week attacker – who can also operate on either flank – once again caught the eye over his 32 Ligue 1 fixtures last season, scoring 11 goals, registering two assists and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.7 shots, making 0.4 key passes and completing 0.3 dribbles per game.
