'It's nuts' - Gary Lineker has Scott McTominay suspicion at Manchester United

Gary Lineker believes it is 'nuts' to see Scott McTominay be so prolific for Scotland yet fail to get many minutes at Manchester United, and suspects his lack of game time will see suitors come in for him in future transfer windows.

McTominay was in the goals for Scotland again on Friday evening as they beat Cyprus 3-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifier. The 26-year-old opened the scoring inside six minutes, bursting into the box and heading in at the back post after Andy Robertson's cross was flicked on by John McGinn.

It was the United midfielder's sixth goal of European qualifying, which leaves him as joint top-scorer alongside Romelu Lukaku and Rasmus Hojlund of Belgium and Denmark respectively. As assist on Friday evening sets him above the pack with the single most goal involvements of the three.

It's a stark contrast from club duties in which McTominay can barely get a look in at United. And Lineker suspects someone might come in for the midfielder in January.

"I notice Scott McTominay playing and getting in the box a lot," Lineker told The Rest Is Football podcast. "He scored again in this game, he scored a couple in the game first time against Cyprus.

"He’s top scorer in qualifying. It’s nuts, yet he’s not really getting a look in at Manchester United. Someone will go for him surely?”

McTominay has registered just nine minutes of football for United this season, coming off the bench in the dying minutes of wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest. The Scotland international has continued to struggle for football despite manager Erik ten Hag suffering with several injuries in that area.

Mason Mount had been missing for the final two games
