‘It’s no secret’; Rangnick makes damning Rashford confession as Man Utd flounder in Leicester draw

Ralf Rangnick admitted he was light in attack but still placed Marcus Rashford on the bench after watching Manchester United draw 1-1 with Leicester City.

The Red Devils went into the match looking for back-to-back Premier League wins following a 3-2 triumph over Tottenham last time out. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Spurs but was not in the squad to face the Foxes. And the hosts once again struggled to find the net without the Portugal captain in the ranks.

After a poor first half, the game came to life when Kelechi Iheanacho gave the visitors the lead on 63 minutes. United’s response was almost instant as Fred got them back on level terms three minutes later.

James Maddison thought he had won it for Brendan Rodgers side but his effort ten minutes from time was overturned by VAR. The result leaves United sixth in the standings and with just a slim chance of finishing in the top four.

Rangnick felt his charges were not at the races during the first 45 minutes but was more encouraged after the interval.

“The second half was the better one, we were struggling to find the rhythm in the first half possibly because of the international break,” he told Sky Sports. “We gave away a goal on a transitional moment but the reaction after was good and scored a goal. In the end we are not happy with the result but the second half was OK.”

With Ronaldo unavailable, the German tactician had to make a call between Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba. He went with the Frenchman even though Rashford was the sole striker fit and ready to play.
