"It’s just too expensive" - concerns over Metrolink future

Earlier this week, the future of the Metrolink was described as 'unclear' with funding set to decrease over the coming months and passenger numbers still down after the pandemic.

A £278 million government bail-out had helped the network through the Covid pandemic, with a further £144.5 million helping it through to this October.

But with uncertainty surrounding how the Metrolink will sustain itself past this point, we want to know how you feel about the situation.

Let us know your thoughts in our comments section.

Many readers have already responded with their feelings about the tram system, with one saying: "Want to try lowering the prices!"

Another added: "It’s just too expensive."

One person stated their worries given the current cost of living crisis, saying: "I can't understand how Manchester is expected to run such a transit system in a time when everybody's pocket is being squeezed."

Suggestions were also shared on how to alter the tram stops, with one person addressing fare dodging by saying: "Put barriers up on the platform...too many getting away with it."

Others voiced their concerns with public transport routes on the whole, with another reader adding: "Why does so much public transport go via the city centre? This causes so much congestion Why no circular route, without changing buses etc?"
