‘It’s in Liverpool’s favour’ – Carragher, Richards make Prem title claim

Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have discussed the Premier League title race following Manchester City’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

Heading into this weekend, Man City were nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool are their nearest challengers and they beat Norwich City 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

16 Conclusions: Manchester City 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Later in the day, Harry Kane scored a brace as Tottenham beat Man City 3-2 at the Etihad.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now just six points behind City but they have a game in hand over the league leaders. The rivals face off at the Etihad in April.

Speaking after City’s defeat, Richards suggested that the title battle is now in “Liverpool’s favour”:

“It’s in Liverpool’s favour now. If they come here [the Etihad Stadium] and win the game and do the rest that they need to do in the Premier League. I said before the game ‘don’t be complacent’. It wasn’t just about City,” Richards said (via Manchester Evening News).

“Spurs were excellent, but I think City knew Spurs were going to drop deep and come on the counter-attack and that played into their hands.”

Carragher added: “It’s not just a massive day for the top-four race, but the title race. It’s a tantalising prospect and Liverpool still have to come to the Etihad.”
