'It's close' - Wolves star eyeing Europe after Man Utd boost

Jonny Castro Otto says Wolverhampton Wanderers' 'ambition and mentality' is to finish the league in the top-six, and return to European competition.

In the 2018/19 season, Wolves sealed a seventh place finish which saw them qualify for the 2019/20 Europa League under Nuno Espirito Santo. The Wanderers had a successful run before falling short in the semi-final to Spanish side Valencia, who then went on to seal their sixth European title.

Wolves still remain on course to seal their best ever finish since returning to the top-flight of English football. Their highest finish since returning to the Premier League has been seventh place.

Bruno Lage's side are currently eighth in the Premier League however, only five points away from the top-six, occupied by Manchester United. A win at Burnley on Sunday afternoon, will certainly steer the Wanderers in the right direction.

"We are fighting for the European position, we have done well," Jonny told the PA news agency. "It’s close. I know if we want to get this we need to win everything.

"I know it’s difficult but it’s our ambition and mentality. If we want good things we need to fight. I feel happy. Yes, I’ve scored two goals [since his return] but when you play worse you can score but maybe when you play better you don’t.

"The most important thing for me is to keep improving. I can be more, I’m trying to get there and stay there."
