It's brewing: Mercedes-AMG could be set for a first GP win this year in Brazil

The Mercedes-duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were in a class of their own as they dominated the Formula 1 Sprint Race in Brazil. Starting in third and eighth, respectively, the two Silver Arrows carved their way up the order, eventually crossing the line in first and third, with Russell leading the way.

The 100km (24-lap) Sprint Race got off to a good, clean start, with Kevin Magnussen holding the race's lead until the end of Lap 2. Max Verstappen charged his Red Bull down the inside of Turn 1 at the start of the third lap, with Russell doing the same on Magnussen soon after.

But while Russell was on the Soft tyre, Verstappen was on the Medium. Early indications and track data gathered over the weekend suggested that the Medium tyre would be better for both the Sprint Race and the race, but it turned out to be not the case.

In the Grand Prix's latter stages, Verstappen struggled with grip, while Russell, as well as Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Hamilton, upped the ante. They picked off Verstappen, relegating the former race leader to fourth.

More, Sainz will incur a five-place grid penalty, dropping him to seventh for the start of the race, leaving the two Mercedes cars on the front row. Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, will start in third and fourth. Given Red Bull's struggling performance in the Sprint Race, the two Silver Arrows may have the upper hand going into the race.
