'It's a wonderful academy' - England U20 boss praises Man City set-up as youngsters tipped to shine at World Cup

From top to bottom, Manchester City dominate the England set-up.

Five of Pep Guardiola's senior players will join up with the Three Lions this month as the quest to qualify for Euro 2024 begins with matches against Italy and Ukraine. Another five have been selected for the Under-21s and a further six for the Under-18s.

The case is also the same for the often overlooked Under-20 age group, where three City prospects have been selected, as well as two youngsters who have recently left the club, as they prepare for an upcoming World Cup that could see England achieve an unprecedented feat.

Liam Delap, Luke Mbete and Callum Doyle are all spending the season out on loan at EFL clubs and have impressed manager Ian Foster enough, despite some difficult periods, to earn a place in his final squad before the Under-20 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia this May. The same age group claimed the Under-19 European Championship last year and can become the first European nation to win a Euros and World Cup back-to-back if they're successful.

As well as the trio, Samuel Edozie and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who left City for Southampton and Borussia Dortmund, respectively, are also in the squad to further demonstrate the Blues' impact on the England set-up.

"Yeah there is," Foster told the Manchester Evening News when asked about the strong City presence in his squad.
