'It's a no-brainer' - Jamie Carragher tells Manchester United to make Thomas Tuchel move

Jamie Carragher has claimed Manchester United should try to bring Thomas Tuchel to Old Trafford, describing the move as a 'no-brainer'.

It comes after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government on Thursday in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, freezing the oligarch's assets. While Chelsea have been handed a special license to continue playing football until the end of the season, they have been effectively placed under a transfer embargo and will be unable to sign or sell players once the transfer window opens under the current restrictions.

The news has led to speculation that Tuchel, who led the Blues to a Champions League triumph last season, could walk away from Chelsea. Naturally, United have already been linked.

United are on the hunt for their next permanent manager and hope to have one in place by the end of the season. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are the current leading candidates but Carragher believes the news coming out of Chelsea should alter those plans.

"Manchester United have been presented with the ideal opportunity to recruit the manager who should be their number one target: Thomas Tuchel," he wrote in The Telegraph.

"All roads have been leading towards Mauricio Pochettino since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After Paris Saint-Germain’s latest Champions League failure, Pochettino will be available soon. But he may have stronger competition for the United job than he could have imagined.
