Gary Neville makes Thomas Tuchel prediction as Man Utd attempt to poach Chelsea manager
Gary Neville expects Thomas Tuchel to stay at Stamford Bridge following the Chelsea takeover, despite Manchester United’s attempts to poach the German manager from their Premier League rivals.
United, still yet to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement, have expressed interest in Tuchel since Chelsea were thrown into chaos by the Roman Abramovich sanctions.
Both the UK Government and European Union have sanctioned Abramovich in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Under the sanctions, Chelsea are unable to sell any tickets or merchandise, while they are prohibited from signing any new players or agreeing contracts with current ones.
Tuchel has insisted he will stay at Chelsea until at least the end of the season but there is a growing sense he could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, having established himself as one of the best managers in the world over the past three years.
The 48-year-old won two league titles and reached the Champions League final at Paris Saint-Germain, and went one better after replacing Frank Lampard at Chelsea, guiding the Premier League club to Europe’s biggest club trophy last season.
Asked if Tuchel should stay at Chelsea or look to leave this summer, former Manchester United and England defender Neville told Sky Sports: ‘I think Thomas Tuchel will stay.
‘With Chelsea, we’ve seen the reports over the past 24 hours, they are going to swap one multi-billionaire for another, so they are not going to be weaker from a financial point of view.
‘If he is settled there, he’s got a good team, he’s achieved success, I don’t think he’d leave if the new ownership came in – and obviously all the restrictions were removed – and gave him the right support on building a project.
